Accomplishments

 

Project Maria has accomplished much since its inception. The following are just a few ways we have helped spread awareness.

10/06/18- We participated in and had a booth at NAMI’s Paint the Town Yellow event in Janesville.

09/30/18- We fielded a team for the Madison NEDA Walk and raised the most money of all the teams.

06/16/18- We hosted the Third Annual Art Jam.

06/03/18- We had a booth at the Basics Co-Op Block Party.

05/31/18- We committed to offering monthly Body Positive Yoga sessions at Basic Co-Op. (See our events section for more specifics.)

02/26/18- We celebrated Eating Disorder Awareness Week by contacting local yoga studios to suggest they offer Body Positive sessions to their clients to demonstrate commitment to our cause. We also hosted our own free session at the Janesville Senior Community Center and advocated that folks attend a local viewing of the documentary, “All of Me.”

01/19/18- We had a booth at the Janesville Performing Arts Center for the Summit at Youth Mental Health.

10/08/17- We hosted our first monthly Support Groups for those impacted by eating disorders. (This groups continues to meet monthly. See our Events section for more details.)

09/30/17- We fielded a team for the NAMI Paint the Town Yellow Suicide Prevention Walk in Janesville, WI.

09/16/17- We fielded a team to represent us at the Madison NEDA Walk.

06/17/17 – We hosted the Second Annual Art Jam.

03/03/17 – We co-hosted our first Care Cards event with JM4C in Janesville to celebrate Eating Disorder Awareness Week. All cards produced were sent to patients in local eating disorder treatment facilities.

02/16/17 – Alita Dorn presents to Mercyhealth Family Practice Residents

11/16/16 – Michael Dorn was a guest speaker at Madison College for a class in Recreation Management. He also begins speaking each semester in Milton HS freshmen health classes regarding eating disorders.

10/09/16 – A team attended the 2016 Madison NEDA Walk; Michael Dorn was a speaker.

10/01/16 – A team and informational booth were present at NAMI Paint the Town Yellow, a suicide prevention walk in Janesville. We also sent Board members to Chicago to attend the NEDA Conference.

09/19/16 – Informational booth at Southern Wisconsin Mental Health Conference

06/11/16 – We hosted the First Annual Art Jam.

04/17/16 – A team attended the Sixth Annual Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide prevention in Madison.
